This is one of the things I love so much while travelling: breakfast. Every country has its own style, and I love to discover the differences. Whereas the cucumber and tomato tradition is kind of the same in Greece and Turkey, I would not want to miss the delicious yoghurt with honey which I've found no where so tasty as in Greece. Though I do miss the fresh tea a la Turca.. But who is going to complain on holidays? Not me!
As the sun is climbing higher in the hot sky, the daily concert of the grasshoppers has begun and we head towards our first archeological excavation: Ancient Kamiros. Beautifully located on a small hill above the Westcoast of Rhodes, the large site has many remains of a very rich civilization who built this city around 7th Century BC. From the acropolis and the temple at the top we have amazing views on the layout of the ancient town. Down the hill there are many burned trees. Our heads are also burning and we desperately search for some shadow. Cooling down in the swimmingpool of our hotel is the best thing to do now. In the afternoon we walk a long way towards Petaloudes, the so called Butterfly Valley. The last steep part of the road we go by bus, who eventually came with an hour delay :)
The Butterfly Valley itself would be a sweet place, millions of black and white dotted moths are resting on the trees along the little river. It would be, if the huge masses of tourists wouldn't destroy this sweet peaceful character. All-in-tourists try to walk on the rocky path with their high heels and slippers, blocking the way of people like us who go faster with good footwear. A bit disappointed, we leave Petaloudes and on the beach near our hotel we forget the chaos between the butterflies. An awesome sunset relaxes our minds. » less
