So i awoke around 8am, 2 hours after i wanted to the reason was my fault, I stayed out until 2am drinking with friends in my last night in SF. It was a great night.
I finished packing up my car and pulled out of my spot 1 1/5 hrs after i wanted to, oh well. I hit the road and drove north on the 101 to Willits, CA, and took a left on the 20 to Fort Bragg. For the next 36 miles the trip really started for me.
I was driving through the Jackson State Forrest on a road that winded around like the cords behind your computer, over, under and around anything and everything. It was a great road with trees that covered the road overhead the entire was. The drive lasted a solid 1hr which was amazing, I just wish i had sportier car rather then the wagon (that wouldn't last long).
So i got to Fort Bragg and found a local watering hole, it was called Tip Top and it was packed for 1:30pm on a Monday afternoon. Josh, the bartender, asked what I wanted and I asked for the turkey Club and a cold one ( that's beer for those of you that are under the legal age). I ended up staying for an hour or 2 and continued on my route.
I continued north on route 1 to Eureka, my first night stop, while on the way I went through another winding and twisty road that had towering trees above. It was amazing to say the least and as I look back I wish I was the passenger able to look around the entire time.
After 44 miles of the best forest path I re-connected with the 101 and was on the fast track to Eureka. It was until i reached Beatrice about 10 miles outside or eureka when the car I had bought for a couple hundred $'s the engine started smoking. A few minutes later the engine had quite on me, i thought to myself "$(%()#)%*%)#)$(@#$&%*))!!!)@#($%&%....... " That went on for a while. I called AAA got the car towed to the local Subaru dealer. The man there, Ken, answered. I explained what was going on and he waited until i arrived to make sure my car got into the garage to keep everything I had inside secure.
He gave me a ride to my motel showed me around the neighborhood and recommenced a local brewery to grab a bite. I tried to forget what had just happened...

I awoke early to go to Hertz ( there i said it again I want to SWAG), walked there and saw the volvo and was very happy, this was way better than a 1992 Subaru Legacy Wagon.
I wasn't sure that everything would fit in the car..... IT WOULD, F'in sweet.
So after i got everything loaded into the car, i went back to the hotel got my free breakfast, took a shower and finally checked out.
I was on my way again, in a car that was leaps and bounds better than what I had the previous day.
The Coast along the West Coast is one of the most amazing things I've seen and I'm so happy that tomorrow I have another 344 Miles to take it all in. I found myself stopping every 10 minutes taking a picture because it is just so amazing. I wanted to take this drive through the woods but it was closed due to.. well I don't know.
But that ended up being a great thing because I ended up taking exit 768 to a camp that had a Coastal Drive ( name of road ) and that is where you will see me with the video walking towards a cliff not knowing what will be at the end. It was quite spectacular, and so far the best accident so far.. HAHA get 'em out.
After that i kept on driving and stopped here and there taking a few snap shots, and along the way came across the Trees of Mystery, that by the way have actual size replicas of Paul Bunion and Babe (if they were real). I took a $14 tour through the redwoods with paths, maps descriptions and even a gondola ride thru these giants that made me feel so small, insignificant and minuscule. Some of these tree's are 1000's of years old, Myself, I am only 1416 WEEKS old.
To be walking around and touching things, LIVING organisms that have gone though events that we can only imagine, gets you to think wild and crazy things. The most amazing was a 10 foot diameter tree that had fallen and another 10+foot diameter tree was growing OVER and ON IT, grafted into one crazy looking tree ( don't worry I have pictures).
I saw many amazing trees through this park and was well worth the admittance.
It was starting to get late in the day and the sun was setting quickly, so I decided not to take any more detours and only stop along the route I was on. A few more pictures and a Dinner of PB&J with some Gold Fish and a Coke stopped on the side of the road while watching the sunset one step from a 100+ foot cliff the night enveloped the Oregon Trail and I set on to Coos Bay an hour away.
I stopped into Walt's Pourhouse a few blocks from my hotel and grabbed a very good Island Chicken Sandwich and a local brew from the area, I stayed about an hour had 2 more beers ( local brews again and very good), then grabbed a PBR 40 that I'm drinking as I write down my thoughts for the day at my Motel room listening to Stewart and Colbert in the background.
Well from Coos Bay, Oregon I say.... TBC » less
