Using your Facebook account on myTripBook.com

January 19th, 2009

You can now login to myTripBook.com using your Facebook account and all the trips you enter can be displayed on your Facebook profile page and through your friends’ newsfeeds. Using our new Facebook application “Trip Diary” a summary of past and future trips will be displayed on your Facebook profile page.

You can enter trips that you have taken and ones that you are planning for the future, add photos or diary entries and plot your route on a map. There is also a section to add recommendations from for the hidden gems that you have discovered and want to share- such as a bar, restaurant, hotel or hostel or just a particular activity. You can now browse friends’ trips to see where they are going or have already been and to find helpful travel information from them. You can easily add Facebook friends to your myTripBook profile.

With myTripBook’s new Facebook application “Trip Diary” you can display a summary of all the trips you have entered on myTripBook.com on your Facebook profile page, which will link to the trip page on myTripBook. With your permission, trips that you enter are also displayed in your Facebook newsfeed- including when you are arriving at or leaving a particular destination on your trip. You can also now add photos to your myTripBook trip directly from your Facebook albums.

Happy travels!

myTripBook has changed!

July 7th, 2008

myTripBook.com launched in May 2007 to provide a place to record all your travel experiences and to share these with friends. Based on feedback from the first members, we have now just launched the latest version of the site which we hope you will find simpler, easier to use and better designed for this purpose.

With myTripBook you can keep a diary of all your past trips- along with maps of the route, photos, diary notes, a record of particular places where you stayed, ate or drank at or just visited that you want to remember or recommend and also trip videos (coming soon).

You can also share your future travel plans with friends. This could mean seeing if you are going to be in the same place at the same time but could also help you find which friends have already visited a place you are going to and can help with advice and recommendations for that place.

There are a number of new features which have been added to the site:

  • You can now choose to keep your profile page open to all or private (or just visible to the friends you add on myTripBook).
  • You can use myTripBook to book your travel accommodation from over 50,000 hotels and 15,000 hostels around the world.
  • You can bookmark other people’s trips that you find interesting so that they are always easy to find.
  • For those people who use the photo-sharing website Flickr, you can add your photos for a particular trip directly from there.
  • We want to make the trip pages you create easy to share elsewhere- by sharing the link to your page on other sites but also by closer integration with other social networking sites- something we continue to work towards.

Certain features on the site that were not widely used- such as the travel guides and travelmates section- have been removed. Although it is not easy to lose features, we wanted to make the site as simple as possible for recording and sharing your trips. Finally, if you are wondering what the dates on your profile page refer to (1 Jan- 31 December: “My travels”) this is because now all content that is added to the site starts with a particular trip and dates (which was not the case before)- this can easily be edited in the Add/Edit your trips section.

If you have any comments, suggestions or want to report a problem with the site, please do not hesitate to contact us.
